Ultimately, I think it would be cool to have this knowledge not just for Rush, but for other bands as well, though I am just starting to realize this whole concept of finding the best versions of stuff is probably going to be pretty difficult since sound quality is subjective, no? I might have no idea what I'm talking about. For just about everything else, I am not even sure where to begin with all the original CD, vinyl pressings, reissues on either format, high resolution downloads, DVD-As, even the SACDs, etc. Correct me if I am wrong, I would like to know. The motivation for this post is the whole Moving Pictures situation, currently it seems the DVD-A/Blu-Ray 5.1 mixes are the best, being not cut off at 20 KHz like the accompanying stereo mixes (and just about every other stereo mix of the album maybe?). ![]() I just recently learned that DR values of vinyl are pretty much never to be trusted. Trying to get a good idea of which versions of Rush's studio albums sound the best overall is proving to be a lot harder than I thought because I don't really fully understand DR values and spectral analysis as much as I thought I did. ![]()
